Workshop Physical activity-related injuries prevention in adolescents – what do we know?

The first of two planned PARIPRE project’s workshops took place on October 6th, 2021 at Grand Hotel Bernardin in Portorož, Slovenia, as a part of the 11th International Scientific and Professional Conference “A Child in Motion,” organised by the Science and Research Centre Koper. The workshop was streamed via Zoom to allow online participation for those who were unable to join the workshop in person. 

The programme started with opening remarks from Rado Pišot and Boštjan Šimunič from Science and Research Centre Koper, organisers of the workshop. This was followed by remarks from Vesna Marinko from Slovenian Ministry of Health, who underlined the importance of the topic of physical activity-related injuries prevention in adolescence. Then project presentation was presented by Peter Bakalár from University of Prešov. This was followed by the lecture of Jari Parkkari from UKK Institute called „Sport Injury Prevention Strategies and Measures. Preparation of PARIPRE Recommendations – Part 1”. Afterwards, Mari Leppänen from UKK Institute presented within her presentation „Sport Injury Prevention Strategies and Measures. Preparation of PARIPRE Recommendations – Part 2” proposal of the “Recommendations for the prevention of physical activity-related injuries in adolescents”. Those were discussed with various stakeholders. Their comments were considered while finalising the final text of the recommendations following the workshop. Overall, 79 participants (students, trainers, teachers, athletes, professors, governmental body representatives) from 7 countries and 41 organisations including Science and Research Centre Koper (Slovenia), University of Prešov (Slovakia), University of Pavol Jozef Šafárik in Košice (Slovakia), Sports Union Slovenia (Slovenia), Mother and Child Foundation (Poland), Slovenian National Institute of Health, UKK Institute (Finland), Palacký University in Olomouc (Czechia), Slovenian Olympic Committee, Slovenian Ministry of Health (online), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), University of Zagreb (Croatia), University of Primorska (Slovenia) and many others were present onsite or online at the workshop
